Softball Recap: Brazos Wins Going Away Against Hempstead

Brazos made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hempstead, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Brazos was the clear victor by an 11-2 margin over Hempstead on Monday. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Ava Aguilar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Kendall Macha was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (three). Amie Vasquez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Brazos is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-14-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Hempstead's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Brazos and Hempstead could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Brazos will square off against East Bernard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 628 places (969 vs. 341). Meanwhile, Hempstead (ranked 826th) will meet Van Vleck (ranked 378th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
