Baseball Game Preview: Sutter Huskies vs. Calexico Bulldogs

The Sutter Huskies and the Calexico Bulldogs will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sutter 2.9, Calexico 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Sutter's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when San Diego hitters got past them. The Huskies came up short against the Cavers on Tuesday, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered since March 25, 2024.

Parker McVey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. Blake Agger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Calexico sidestepped Lincoln for a 6-4 victory.

Calexico also got a great performance from Antonio Gonzalez as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Gonzalez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Randy Baez was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Beltran, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Calexico lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sutter fell to 12-1. As for Calexico, their record is now 10-3-1.
