Basketball Recap: Mackenzie Camp's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Clever over Ash Grove

Clever suffered their closest loss since January 8th on Monday. They fell just short of the Ash Grove Pirates by a score of 57-54. The Blue Jays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Clever's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mackenzie Camp, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 20 points. What's more, Camp also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January. Bella Argo was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Clever has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Ash Grove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Clever wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-31 victory against Central on the 17th. As for Ash Grove, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chadwick at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
