Baseball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

Chaparral extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 11-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks. The Pumas were not able to make up for their loss to the Nighthawks from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Colby Creamer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chaparral saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dean Mariani, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Murrieta Valley, they moved to 6-16 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 25, 2024.

On Murrieta Valley's side, Nolan Hill made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Hill a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

While Chaparral had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
