Football Game Preview: Valley Vista Monsoon vs. Cesar Chavez Champions + Official Tickets

The Valley Vista Monsoon will head out on the road to square off against the Cesar Chavez Champions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Valley Vista and seven for Cesar Chavez.

On Friday, Valley Vista ended up a good deal behind Westwood and lost 51-32. Even if the Monsoon couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

Despite the loss, Valley Vista had strong showings from Damir Ilicic, who threw for 481 yards and five TDs while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt, and Joseph Watts-Diver, who gained 266 total yards and three touchdowns. A healthy portion of Ilicic's aerial production (109 yards to be exact) went to Arie Callwood, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Meanwhile, Cesar Chavez fell victim to Hamilton and their airtight defense on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Huskies and fell 63-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Champions haven't been shut out since back in September.

Cesar Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Valley Vista, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-8.

Valley Vista might still be hurting after the 34-13 defeat they got from Cesar Chavez in their previous meeting back in September of 2021. Thankfully for the Monsoon, Jorge Beltran (who threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
