Softball Game Preview: Bromfield Trojans vs. Maynard Tigers

The Bromfield Trojans will face off against the Maynard Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Bromfield has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Maynard will come in with five straight wins.

Bromfield lost 15-7 to Narragansett Regional last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Maynard faced Narragansett Regional in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jillian Macfarlane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Schmidt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abigail Karlon, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Maynard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .371 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Maynard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bromfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
