Wendell hasn't had much luck against Gooding recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Wendell will challenge Gooding at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gooding will be up against a hot Wendell squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. Wendell put the hurt on Bear Lake with a sharp 19-4 victory on Saturday.
Macie Bird was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyree Sears, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Wendell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .692. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .361 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gooding, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past Fruitland 13-3 last Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Senators in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won three in a row.
Kaylee Silver and Jaelynn Patton made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Silver tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Patton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Silver has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Silver scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Patton scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kodi Garza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Mady Morris was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Wendell pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gooding, their record is now 5-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wendell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Gooding struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
