Laney strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Ashley Screaming Eagle. While the Buccaneers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Laney wouldn't go down easily and took Ashley into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The final set scores came out to 20-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 15-10.

Leading Laney to victory were Kaitlyn Dreimann and Elisabeth (Grace) Johnson. Dreimann had 24 digs and two aces, while Johnson had 12 digs, nine kills, three aces, and a solo block. Kara Williams was another key player, getting 14 digs and an assist.

Ashley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Molly Lundberg, who had eight digs, seven kills, and four aces. Another player making a difference was Victoria Garcia-Morales, who had 15 kills and 12 digs.

Laney has now won nine of their last 11 games at home. That gives them an 8-0 record this season. As for Ashley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laney will challenge Topsail at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ashley, they will square off against New Bern at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
