Basketball Game Preview: Marysville Getchell vs. Lakewood Cougars

Marysville Getchell and Lakewood are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. Marysville Getchell will venture away from home to square off against the Lakewood Cougars at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Marysville Getchell beat Stanwood 65-55. Given Marysville Getchell's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Stanwood is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marysville Getchell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arion Palacol, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. Palacol's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Rice, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Lakewood made off with a 56-55 win over Mount Vernon. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Marysville Getchell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.

Everything came up roses for Marysville Getchell against Lakewood when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 78-51 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marysville Getchell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
