Football Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Summit Tigers + How To Watch

Evergreen is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Summit Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Summit took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Evergreen, who comes in off a win.

Evergreen is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 34-17 victory over Niwot on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what Evergreen needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Gianni Volpe had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 227 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 103.5 rushing yards per game.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Evergreen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Another reason for the win was Evergreen's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Niwot's QB won't forget Jackson Post anytime soon given he sacked him 2.5 times.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Summit's offense. They were beaten by Palisade 55-0 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Summit's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Evergreen, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Everything came up roses for Evergreen against Summit in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 43-6 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' Vander Waerlop, who rushed for 84 yards and one TD on only five carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Cougars to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
