Basketball Game Preview: Brush Beetdiggers vs. Peyton Panthers

The Brush Beetdiggers will face off against the Peyton Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brush is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Last Saturday, Brush lost to Strasburg on the road by a 58-44 margin.

Despite the loss, Brush saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sidney Miller went 5-for-8 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Headley, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, Peyton played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Cedaredge and fell 52-18. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Bruins are ranked 49th).

Brush will have to contain Sammie Nickell as she made an impact in Peyton's last game. She posted nine points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Nickell a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was ArRhiya Brown, who earned two points and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Peyton and nudges their season record down to 11-11. As for Brush, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Brush has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Peyton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.9 boards.
