Softball Recap: DeWitt Panthers vs. Williamston Hornets
With a playoff game on the line, DeWitt rose to the challenge on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Williamston Hornets. Winning may never get old, but DeWitt sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
For Williamston's part, Thea Fortin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fortin was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Ava Jolin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Stiffler, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Even though they lost, Williamston didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 11 strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
The victory got DeWitt back to even at 11-11. As for Williamston, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 20-9 record this season.
DeWitt is on the road again on Saturday to play Chelsea. Williamston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
