Softball Game Preview: Scranton Rockets vs. Magazine Rattlers

Scranton is 7-1 against Magazine since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rockets will host the Rattlers at 4:30 p.m. Scranton's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Magazine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Monday, Scranton narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Charleston 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.

Brecken Mainer (2028) was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, DeLaney Mainer (2026) was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Croft (2028), who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Magazine got themselves on the board against Mulberry last Friday, but Mulberry never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Rattlers have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Magazine's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Scranton, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Scranton was able to grind out a solid victory over Magazine when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 3-0. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
