Basketball Recap: Eastern Randolph Takes a Loss

Eastern Randolph lost against Providence Grove two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eastern Randolph Wildcats lost to the Providence Grove Patriots on the road by a 55-36 margin. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Patriots are ranked 181st).

Providence Grove found their leader in sophomore Laurel Bernhardt, who went 8-for-14 on her way to 20 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Bernhardt's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Mailey Way, who posted nine points.

Eastern Randolph's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Providence Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Eastern Randolph does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Providence Grove, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Trinity at 6:00 p.m. Providence Grove is facing Trinity at the right time seeing as Trinity is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
