Baseball Recap: Jefferson Makes It 16 in a Row at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jefferson). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Hampshire Trojans on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Liam Healey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Healey was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had over his last 11 contests.

In other batting news, Jefferson got a big performance out of Sam Hefner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Hefner has posted over his last 14 games. Andrew Engle was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampshire only posted an OBP of .300.

Jefferson's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Hampshire, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will square off against Spring Valley at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hampshire, they will take on Grafton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
