Basketball Recap: Peter Howard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elkhorn over Boys Town

Elkhorn fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Boys Town on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 66-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Boys Town Cowboys. The Antlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cowboys apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Elkhorn lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Peter Howard, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Howard a new career-high. Jake Petersen was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Elkhorn has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Boys Town, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhorn will take on Standing Bear at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhorn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season. As for Boys Town, they will welcome Lincoln Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
