Baseball Recap: Galesburg Wins Going Away Against Rock Island

Galesburg won the last time they faced Rock Island and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Silver Streaks blew past the Rocks 11-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Silver Streaks have posted against the Rocks since April 23, 2022.

Nico Ojeda was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Galesburg let Jameson Dickerson and Tyree Taylor run wild. Dickerson went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Taylor went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Dickerson is becoming a predictor of Galesburg's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 10-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Alfred Ayala, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Galesburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Galesburg is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-17 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rock Island, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-15.

Looking ahead, Galesburg will welcome Kewanee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Boilermakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71 runs per game on average), something the Silver Streaks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rock Island, they will challenge Alleman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
