Basketball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

Central lost against Andrew Jackson back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Central Eagles had to suffer through a 100-16 loss at the hands of the Andrew Jackson Volunteers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Volunteers are ranked 12th).

Jariyah Sowell was Central's leading scorer, having posted six points. Sowell also led the team in rebounds with five.

Tamia Watkins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Andrew Jackson, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 15 boards. Watkins has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ni?Yonna Asbelle, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Central's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Andrew Jackson, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Central will square off against York Prep at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Central is facing York Prep at the right time seeing as York Prep is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Andrew Jackson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-55 loss against Mount Paran Christian on the 18th.
