Softball Recap: Brashier Middle College Charter Bengal vs. Liberty Red Devils
Brashier Middle College Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 21-8 to the Liberty Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.
Kaylee Coker was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 19 unearned) runs off 15 hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one run.
In other batting news, Lily Burton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Katie Loewecke, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Brashier Middle College Charter's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Liberty, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-12.
Looking ahead, Brashier Middle College Charter will venture away from home to square off against Emerald at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.3 runs per game on average), something the Bengal will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Liberty, they will challenge Chesnee at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
