Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. North Laurel Jaguars
On Friday, Wekiva ended up a good deal behind North Laurel and lost 54-36. While losing is never fun, Wekiva can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 107th in Florida, while North Laurel is ranked 11th in Kentucky).
Tierra Coleman and Senaia Asanya certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Coleman scored 16 points along with four steals, while Asanya scored six points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her.
This is the second loss in a row for Wekiva and nudges their season record down to 10-6. As for North Laurel, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wekiva won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 10:30 a.m. on December 30th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Kylie Green and Coleman. As for North Laurel, they will be playing at home against Clay County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
