Basketball Recap: Lawson Comes Up Short

Lawson was the 58-42 winner over Penney when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Lawson Cardinals took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Penney Hornets on Friday. The Cardinals were down 47-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Lawson still got an impressive performance from Isaac Willoughby, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 20 points. The game was Willoughby's third in a row with at least ten points. Andrew Phipps was another key player, putting up six points and six assists.

Lawson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Penney, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lawson will take on Stewartsville/Osborn at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lawson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season. As for Penney, they will challenge Chillicothe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chillicothe also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.1 points per game.
