Basketball Game Preview: Tyrone Golden Eagles vs. State College Little Lions

The Tyrone Golden Eagles will head out to challenge the State College Little Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tyrone knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully State College likes a good challenge.

Last Monday, Tyrone made easy work of Clearfield and carried off an 81-57 win. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, State College was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 70-64 to Central Dauphin. While losing is never fun, the Little Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Rams are ranked 17th).

Tyrone will have to contain Reed Melvin as he made an impact in State College's last game. He went 9 of 13 to rack up 23 points and five boards. That was a full 35.9% of State College's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Michael Powell was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, State College was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

State College has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Tyrone, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
