St. Mary Central Catholic extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 14-5. They never let the St. Joseph Central Catholic Crimson Streaks get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cullen Dillard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, Blake Finneran was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cayden Wikel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
St. Mary Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Joseph Central Catholic only posted an OBP of .300.
As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. Considering the last time they couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
On St. Joseph Central Catholic's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Spieldenner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. St. Mary Central Catholic will challenge rival Danbury at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, St. Joseph Central Catholic is set to face off against their familiar foe Gibsonburg at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
