Softball Game Preview: Danvers Falcons vs. Lowell Catholic Crusaders

The Danvers Falcons will venture away from home to square off against the Lowell Catholic Crusaders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Danvers fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Beverly on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 8-7. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kyla Moroney was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Moroney was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Addi McCarty made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Briley Keezer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Lowell Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Whittier RVT on Thursday and fell 3-2.

Danvers now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Lowell Catholic, they dropped their record down to 0-1 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Danvers came out on top in a nail-biter against Lowell Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
