Softball Recap: Freehold Boro Colonials vs. Matawan Regional Huskies
Freehold Boro had lost seven straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-19 to make it eight. They lost 11-0 to the Matawan Regional Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 10th.
As for Matawan Regional, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
For Matawan Regional's part, Hayley Maresca was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Maresca was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Weimer, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Elyssa Jamandron, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Freehold Boro will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Holmdel at 3:45 p.m. As for Matawan Regional, they are taking a road trip to challenge Monmouth Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
