Softball Game Preview: Nettleton Raiders vs. Hoxie Mustangs

The Nettleton Raiders will head out to challenge the Hoxie Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Nettleton has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Nettleton came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Star City.

Nettleton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mckinzi Luster, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That hit marked the first that Luster has got this season.

Meanwhile, Hoxie hadn't done well against Melbourne recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bearkatz, sneaking past 4-3. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Bearkatz on their field since April 11, 2017.

Hoxie's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Nettleton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Nettleton got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Hoxie by a conclusive 12-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
