Basketball Recap: Elli Baker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northfield over Southwood

Northfield and Southwood squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Northfield had to settle for second. They fell to the Southwood Knights 38-34. The Norsemen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 42-32.

Northfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elli Baker, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Teagan Baer was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Southwood found their leader in sophomore Lola Winer, who put up nine points in addition to five boards and three steals. Winer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alivia Pershing, who had six points and six rebounds.

Northfield's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Southwood, their win bumped their record up to 7-16.

Northfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Southwood has already played their next contest (against North Miami), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
