Baseball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton had lost 23 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-22 to make it 24. They fell just short of the North Newton Spartans by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rebels have suffered since May 1st.

Cayden Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for North Newton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-14. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On North Newton's side, the team relied heavily on Joe Stalewski, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Stalewski a new career-high.

Coming up, South Newton will face off against Pioneer at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for North Newton, they will challenge Lowell at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
