Basketball Recap: Trinity Falls Despite Big Games from Zy'iveon Holmes and Nazir Staton

Trinity was the 71-63 winner over Southwestern Randolph when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Trinity Bulldogs received a blow on Thursday as they fell 70-55 to the Southwestern Randolph Cougars. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Trinity's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nazir Staton, who posted 25 points and five assists, and Zy'Iveon Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Walker Parrish was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Southwestern Randolph had a senior duo take command as Zach Bruce had 24 points and Brayden Chapman put up 12 points along with eight assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Chapman a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Mosley, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds.

Trinity's record is now 3-6. As for Southwestern Randolph, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-4.

Trinity wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 52-42 loss against Wheatmore on the 17th. As for Southwestern Randolph, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-54 win against East Davidson on the 13th.
