The Southern Wayne Saints will venture away from home to square off against the Northern Nash Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Wayne will be strutting in after a win while Northern Nash will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Southern Wayne turned things around against Rocky Mount on Thursday. They blew past the Gryphons 3-0. The Saints not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 19, 2024 (when they won 3-0).
While Southern Wayne won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 28-26, 25-15.
Addison McPhail was nothing short of spectacular: she had seven digs, four aces, and three blocks. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in kills (three).
McPhail wasn't the only good servers: Southern Wayne was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Northern Nash's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of C.B. Aycock.
While Northern Nash ultimately came up short, they really made C.B. Aycock work, particularly in the third set. The final score came out to 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 25-19.
Northern Nash's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Southern Wayne, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 2-15.
Southern Wayne suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Northern Nash in their previous matchup on September 4th. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
