League recap: Dana Hills climbs in state rankings

Dana Hills moved up to 130 from 176 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sea View. The Dolphins were able to move up by defeating Capistrano Valley 57-32.

Dana Hills took down the Cougars 57-32 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mac Vail threw for 167 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.

Matthew Gordon provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Capistrano Valley fell to Todd Rusinkovich's team. He completed 22 passes for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 41 yards. Gordon's key target this week was Cole Muusse, who caught 6 passes for 86 yards.

He went 10-13 with 1 interception.

Vail and Brian Scott gave the Dolphins a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Justin Scott also contributed to the rushing game with 64 yards on the ground.

5-foot-10 quarterback Gordon of Ernst Bucher's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,340. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sean Schulte. The Dana Hills star has 32 catches for 612 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Aliso Niguel takes on San Juan Hills. The Wolverines are currently in fifth, while the Stallions are in first.

Dana Hills made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,342 from 1,881. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 57-32 victory over the Cougars last week.
