Basketball Recap: Portal Takes a Loss

Portal came up into this matchup off a tough 59-point defeat last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Swainsboro Tigers by a score of 45-42 on Monday. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Portal saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kj Hunter went 9 for 13 on his way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hunter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Lanier, who posted seven points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Portal's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Swainsboro, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Portal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-27 defeat against McIntosh County Academy on the 3rd. As for Swainsboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-55 loss against Statesboro on the 4th.
