Volleyball Recap: Fulton Falls Despite Big Games from Estella Vanschenkhof and Bre Knighten

If Fulton was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of New Bloomfield on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Boone Eagles on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

While Fulton ultimately came up short, they really made Southern Boone work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24.

Bre Knighten and Estella Vanschenkhof certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Knighten had 20 digs, 16 kills, four aces, and one block, while Vanschenkhof had seven digs and six aces. Knighten has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 20 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tatum Dailey, who had 23 digs and two assists.

Southern Boone found their leader in freshman Kindle Himes, who had 11 digs and one assist.

Fulton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Southern Boone, their win ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 4-8-1.

Fulton has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Hannibal on the 30th. As for Southern Boone, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Blair Oaks on the 29th.
