Baseball Recap: Armada Comes Up Short

Armada had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-13-1 to make it six. They fell just short of the L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 on Thursday.

As for L'Anse Creuse North, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-18. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.

For L'Anse Creuse North's part, Jaxon Brincheck tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, Brincheck posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four contests.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Mette, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Koston Blaskowski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armada will head out to square off against North Branch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for L'Anse Creuse North, they will venture away from home to take on Marine City at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mariners' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
