Football Recap: Garfield Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Garfield had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 51-43 to the Edgewood Warriors on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the G-Men came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Warriors are ranked 426th).

Despite the loss, Garfield still got an impressive performance from Devin Bates, who rushed for 204 yards and three scores while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Bates' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 123 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Coming up, Garfield will host John F. Kennedy Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Edgewood, they will square off against Ramsey at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
