The Monroe Central Seminoles will be taking part in a tournament against the Bishop Rosecrans Bishops at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Bishop Rosecrans will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Monroe Central extended their winning streak to four on Saturday. Everything went the Seminoles' way against Toronto as they made off with a 13-1 victory. The Seminoles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Karlie Haslam made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Monroe Central got a massive performance out of Olivia Earley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run was Earley's first of the season. Brylee McFredrick was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Monroe Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Rosecrans). They were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over Fairfield Christian Academy on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Like Monroe Central, Bishop Rosecrans also got a great game from a two-way player: Dakota Householder. On the mound, Householder tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Emily Jenkins struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. At bat, Householder got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Jenkins went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Kerry Thompson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Moody, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.
Monroe Central's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Bishop Rosecrans, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9.
