Baseball Game Preview: Washington Patriots vs. Jefferson Cougars

Washington is 1-9 against Jefferson since May of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Washington is taking a road trip to square off against Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Washington's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over GVCS Broadfording. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Washington got a massive performance out of Brayden Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Edwards is crushing it when it comes to triples: he's hit at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jaxton Earl, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Jefferson put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Saint James 11-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Andrew Engle and Easton Pruitt dominated on the mound. Engle pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Pruitt pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, Pruitt didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Jett Gross was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Brady Roberts also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Jefferson pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Washington, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Washington came up short against Jefferson when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 3-0. Can Washington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
