Softball Recap: Grand Prairie Drops Season-High Score on Bowie

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Prairie). They were the clear victor by a 30-20 margin over the Bowie Volunteers on Wednesday. Considering the Gophers have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Stella Benitez-Mendez, who scored six runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Angela Amaya, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double.

Grand Prairie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.2.

Grand Prairie's record is now 7-9. As for Bowie, their defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand Prairie will face off against Martin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Martin will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Bowie, they will take on Arlington at 6:00 p.m. on March 14th.
