Top 100 football recruits for Signing Day 2014 on Twitter

For top recruits, Twitter in some regards is similar to football. Recruits can approach it with different philosophies, have different objectives and exhibit different styles.

Some players use it as a tool to lure other recruits to their school of choice. Ohio State recruit Damon Webb is especially well known for this tactic.

Others, like Joe Mixon and Josh Frazier, used Twitter as a way to interact with fans of the schools they are considering, as well as announce updates on their recruitment.

Jabrill Peppers, who has tweeted regularly for years, leads the Class of 2014 with a whopping total of more than 25,000 followers. Not too far behind is Will Grier. Grier, whose brother Nash has more than 1 million followers, recently topped the 20,000 mark.



Had Peppers not committed to Michigan over the summer, he'd likely have significantly more followers. Last year, No. 1 recruit Robert Nkemdiche remained uncommitted until National Signing Day, amassing nearly 40,000 followers in the process.

Other recruits take a "less is more" approach. Quin Blanding, the No. 6 recruit in the 247Composite, has fewer than 2,000 fans, while fellow blue-chip recruits Myles Garrett and John Smith don't have Twitter at all.

Looking ahead to recruits from the Class of 2015, keep an eye on Lovejoy (Ga.) receiver Preston Williams. The Tennessee commit and MaxPreps Junior All-American has already gained nearly 17,000 followers.
