Basketball Recap: Riverside Comes Up Short

Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They lost 73-51 to the Parkersburg Big Reds. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Big Reds are ranked seventh).

When it comes to explaining why Riverside lost, don't look at Laila Campbell. Despite the final result, she posted 22 points. Another player making a difference was Ava Ward, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Riverside was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Leading Parkersburg to victory were Frances Guice and Kennedy Porter. Guice shot 4-for-6 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Porter dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Guice's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Lott, who put up ten points and five rebounds.

Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Parkersburg, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Riverside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-24 loss against Woodrow Wilson on the 13th. As for Parkersburg, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Spring Valley at 7:00 p.m.
