Recap: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Oakleaf Knights
The Fleming Island Golden Eagles have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They enjoyed a cozy 53-35 win over Oakleaf on Friday. For Fleming Island, this counts as revenge for the 49-28 loss Oakleaf walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
London Jenkins was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with seven steals and six assists. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Devyn Dudones, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Oakleaf lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makiya Trusel. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Trusel scored 15 or more points. Shelby Gaines was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Oakleaf struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fleming Island posted nine assists.
Fleming Island's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Oakleaf, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Fleming Island will look to defend their home court on Monday against Menendez at 6:00 p.m. Menendez is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. Oakleaf won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Raines at 1:30 p.m. on January 13th.
