Softball Recap: Ragland Find Success

Ragland won the last time they faced Jacksonville Christian Academy and things went their way on Monday too. The Ragland Purple Devils came out on top against the Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder by a score of 6-1. The Purple Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jesslyn Carlise spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kylie Layton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Envy Jordan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Ragland's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ragland will square off against Victory Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, they will challenge Spring Garden at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
