Baseball Recap: Grandfield Takes a Loss

Grandfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cyril Pirates. The Bearcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 13-5.

Kasen Dennard and Cooper Henson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Dennard scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Henson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Henson has become a key player for Grandfield: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Souther, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Grandfield now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Cyril, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grandfield will head out to take on Ringling at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cyril, they will venture away from home to challenge Carnegie at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.36 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
