Football Recap: St. Augustine Comes Up Short + How To Watch

The matchup between St. Augustine and Mater Dei Catholic on Friday hardly resembled the 13-10 effort from their previous meeting. The Saints took a 33-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders. The Saints have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why St. Augustine lost, don't look at Paisios Polamalu. Despite the final result, he rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown. An impressive showing, but Polamalu really ramped things up playing D: he forced one fumble, made 13 total tackles, and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception, both of which were returned for scores.

Jordan Dumaran continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mater Dei Catholic, rushing for 236 yards and four scores. With that strong performance, Dumaran is now averaging an impressive 105.4 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Munford, who threw for 250 yards and one TD while completing 88% of his passes.

St. Augustine's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

St. Augustine will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Madison at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Polamalu and Adrian Sola. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-0 win against Helix on the 26th.
