Softball Recap: Redington Huskies vs. Homer Mariners
Redington had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it eight. They came up short against the Homer Mariners, falling 14-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 last Saturday.
As for Homer, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Homer's part, Keagan Niebuhr was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Niebuhr was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Hinsberger, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Amakah Stineff was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Homer beat Redington by a score of 14-6 later that day.
