Soccer Game Preview: Elgin vs. Weatherford

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Elgin face off against Weatherford at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Elgin has given up an average of 3.8 goals per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Elgin fell victim to Putnam City West and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 9-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weatherford). Their defense stepped up to hand Douglass a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but Weatherford sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Weatherford's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Elgin suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Weatherford in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Elgin was down 4-0.
