Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Takes a Loss

Cardinal Gibbons was the 2-0 winner over St. Joseph's Academy when they last played one another back in September of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Crusaders fell 2-0 to the Angels on Friday.

Mary Grace Gonyeau paced Cardinal Gibbons' offense, picking up six kills. Gonyeau got some help from Genevieve Harris and her 15 assists. Gonyeau was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

St. Joseph's Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashley Eveler out in front who had five digs and two aces. Eveler has been hot, having also posted 17 or more assists the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lucy Moriarty, who had 11 digs and three assists.

Cardinal Gibbons' loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for St. Joseph's Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.

Cardinal Gibbons didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Assumption on the 12th. As for St. Joseph's Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against St. Henry on the 12th.
