Softball Recap: Destin Comes Up Short

The Destin Sharks lost 20-2 to the Gulf Breeze Dolphins on Monday. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Aspen Benscoter put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Benscoter wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anita Palmer, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Destin's record now sits at 12-8. As for Gulf Breeze, they moved to 11-10 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Coming up, Destin will take on Mosley in a tournament on Tuesday. The Dolphins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.77 runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gulf Breeze, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Florida at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
