Baseball Recap: Phoebus Comes Up Short

Phoebus had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it ten. They fell just short of the Hampton Crabbers by a score of 5-4. The Phantoms were not able to make up for their defeat to the Crabbers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Joseph Moore III put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Josiah (Beaux) Moore was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

As for Hampton, the win keeps they at an undefeated 10-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average this season.

On Hampton's side, Toby Weymouth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Xavier Nixon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Peele, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

While Phoebus had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
