Basketball Game Preview: West Lafayette Red Devils vs. Lafayette Central Catholic Knights

The West Lafayette Red Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, West Lafayette lost to Lafayette Jefferson on the road by a 53-35 margin. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lafayette Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. The contest between them and Harrison didn't end well, with Lafayette Central Catholic falling 70-53. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Raiders are ranked 45th).

West Lafayette will have to contain Romeo Huerta as he made an impact in Lafayette Central Catholic's last game. He posted 13 points and five boards. Those 13 points gave Huerta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Metzger, who scored nine points.

Even though they lost, Lafayette Central Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Lafayette Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for West Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

West Lafayette was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette Central Catholic when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 70-60. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lafayette Central Catholic's Albert Schwartz, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
